Comments
Most of the patents prior to 1836 were lost in the December 1836 fire. Only about 2000 of the almost 10000 documents were recovered. Little is known about this patent as the patent specifications and drawings do not survive, which is unfortunate because this appears to be the earliest US patent for slitting (as opposed to sawing) veneers.
