XC patents are Canadian patents issued between 1824 and 1869. “The upper muley is a frame strongly secured to the fender beam of the saw mill, and in which are placed upright parallel guide rods for the purpose of carrying the top of the saw, to which are attached a cross head and wooden boxes lined with anti-friction metal. The rods slide up and down by means of a rack screw, and at their bottom are attached the jaws of the muley. The lower muley is a frame secured to the fender sill of the saw mill, having rods, cross head, and wooden boxes likewise for the purpose of carrying the bottom of the saw. The rods are self-lubricating, motion is communicated from the crank to the saw by means of a pitman, attached to the iron cross head by a strap jib and key at the bottom of the saw.”
